The “Umbrella” singer Rihanna recently revealed that she hopes to have her long-awaited ninth album out by the end of 2023. Last weekend, she performed a fantastic medley of her greatest hits during the Super Bowl half-time show. She told British Vogue, “I want it to be this year. “Sincerely, it would be absurd if it didn’t happen this year. But all I want is to enjoy myself. I simply want to create music and videos.”
It’s been more than seven years since Rihanna released Anti, her last album, in 2016. The number-one album, which included hits like “Consideration,” “Work,” and “Close To You,” has grown close to Rihanna, who referred to it as her “most brilliant album” to date.
“I say that because I wasn’t aware of it at the time. But I’ve always felt like it’s my most unified album,” she continued. Now, according to Rihanna, she’s working to overcome her “toxic” mindset in order to finally release an album that she and her fans will both enjoy.
I realized that if I wait until this feels right, perfect, and better, it might take forever to complete and might never be released, and no, I’m not prepared for that, she said. “I want to play, then. I mean by play that I have ideas in my head but am unable to speak them aloud just yet.”
However, it should be noted that Rihanna made her remarks about a new album coming out this year before she and A$AP Rocky learned they were expecting their second child together, which she announced at the Super Bowl. It’s unclear at this time whether the baby’s due date will affect upcoming album release plans.
